Of the many projects undertaken within the framework of programmes for RECORD, some give rise to published works. Thus, allowing for a wider diffusion of new scientific and technical knowledge.

The following is a list of available books, which can be purchased directly from the publisher by clicking on the link.

Flue-gas dedusting. State of the art - available in French only
[Les techniques de dépoussiérage des fumées. Etat de l'art]

Authors: BICOCCHI S., L'HOSPITALIER C.
Published by: Tec & Doc Lavoisier
Date of publication: 03-2002, ISBN: 2-7430-0485-1
294 p., 15.5x24

A two-part study. The first part outlines the problem posed by particles and presents the context: effects on health and the environment, a report on particle emission in France and the existing regulations by sectors of activity. Various techniques for particle removal are then described (operating principal, features and limitations of cyclones, wet precipitators, bag filters and electro filters), as well as the factors determining the choice of filter (features of the particle or gas to be treated).
The second part presents the two most effective technologies: bag filters and electro filters, in a more in-depth manner (particularly as regards the capture of fine particles, the most damaging health-wise and the most difficult to remove).
Pollutants and flue-gas treatment technologies (case study on waste thermal destruction units) - available in French only
[Les polluants et les techniques d'épuration des fumées (cas des unités de destruction thermique des déchets)]

Author: BICOCCHI S.
Published by: Tec & Doc Lavoisier
Date of publication: 05-1998, ISBN: 2-7430-0268-9
184p., 15.5X24

A thorough and practical work, which examines in the first part the polluting agents within the smoke produced by the incineration of waste (10 compound families presented) and in the second, looks at the techniques currently employed for the remediation of smoke from the incineration of waste in Europe, North America and Japan. The publication also examines the procedures applied to industrial smoke emissions, which could be adapted to smoke emissions from the combustion of waste as well as promising lines of development.
Evaluation of the ecological risk from contaminated soils - available in French only
[Evaluation du risque écologique des sols pollués]

Author: RIVIERE J.-L.
Published by: Tec & Doc Lavoisier
Date of publication: 01-1998, ISBN: 2-7430-0220-4
228 p., 15.5x24

The first work in French that presents an overall view of the principals and the methods applied in the evaluation of the environmental risk stemming from contaminated soils. A truly didactic approach, the work proposes a set of definitions before discussing the different aspects relating to the development of contaminants in the soil, and their toxicity. The end result is the formulation of the risk for the reader, which aids him to establish a working practice, which includes economic, social and political data. The evaluation of the environmental risk stemming from contaminated soils is an indispensable introduction to the subject for any decision maker, practioner or student dealing with the hazards of pollution.
Recovery of heavy metals from waste and sludge from wastewater processings. State of the art - available in French only
[Récupération des métaux lourds dans les déchets et boues issues des traitements des effluents. Etat de l'art]

Authors: DUVERNEUIL P., FENOUILLET B., CHAFFOT C.
Published by: Tec & Doc Lavoisier
Date of publication: 07-1997, ISBN: 2-7430-0204-2
134p., 15.5X24

This state of the art outlines the techniques for the separation of solid waste and deals with the recovery of metals from liquids by liquid-solid, liquid-liquid, membranes and biological transfer methods. The third part deals with thermal techniques while the fourth looks into treatment for hazardous gas effluents. The last section covers recovery methods for multi-element waste such as air-borne particles from metalworks and hydroxide sludge, etc.
Thermal processing of industrial waste. State of the art - available in French only
[Traitements thermiques des déchets industriels. Etat de l'art]

Authors: ANTONINI G., GISLAIS P.
Published by: Tec & Doc Lavoisier
Date of publication: 04-1995, ISBN: 2-85206-996-2
142p., 15.5X24

This work provides a thorough global view of the subject, which can be read either to familiarise the reader with the technologies or to discover the state of the art of a specific treatment process. It is the result of a thorough bibliographical research, industrial experiments and the interpretation of responses to a target questionnaire. Each technique is the object of a presentation, which includes: the description of the process and the plant equipment, the waste in question, the advantages and drawbacks. The study ends with an economic evaluation, the patents and references concerned, and a summary of the key figures in the field.
Bulletin on health and waste : "info santé déchets" - available in French only
The Bulletin on health and waste is a quarterly bibliographical magazine, which publishes articles from international scientific reviews on subjects related to health and waste issues.
The bulletin is put together by the Health & waste Network with the financial assistance of RECORD, the ADEME, and the Ministry for Agriculture. You may subscribe to the review or order an issue on line by clicking on the link "pro-environnement".
